The Weekend

Wednesday, October 15th, 2003

I had a great weekend. I forgot that my sister was coming up so that was a very pleasent suprise, we had lots of fun and went to Future Wolrd Funk at the Music Box where they were mixing Banghra with Hip-hop and Drum-n-Bass - sweet!

Im reading a book called Gang Wars which is all about the last 20 years of gangs in Manchester. Its really interesting and is making me feel sad about it all, which i wasnt expecting. It is all abit closer to home since i walk thru the Alexandra Park Estate to get to my nursery. Alot of stuff happened on the roads i walk down and across and its really sad to know that it all really did happen, its not a fiction or a hollywood movie, its real.

Something in me wants to know where the gang scene is at at the moment. What i’d do with that knowledge i dont know. I guess it would just be interesting. It really saddens me that young kids and young men get involved in this gang stuff and it wrecks their lives. I dont know what little old me can do about it - i had visions of becoming a “chaplain” to a gang or two when i first started reading the book, but now i dont see much hope for these people. I know there is hope in Jesus, but practically how? - i dont know.

Who? Where? When? What? Why?

Ive just been messing around with some calendar code i found. Its here. It works and i’m well chuffed!

Its done with a language called php which works really well with databases. Im really enjoying learning to use and abuse it. Most php code is free because of a general ethos of sharing and bettering each others knowledge and websites. Which is really anti-Microsoft - which i like. I also like this.

This Blog page is done in php, in fact you can do pretty much anything with php and a database. I’m happy!

Ha!
